This 2018 Spring Seller Update is more like a face-lift, compared to Updates in the past.
Even though, only 6 areas of changes, there's a lot of little changes that adds up to a major change in the way DropShippers do business.
For this reason, in this blog, you will find clarity on the most important changes, by the earliest required dates. so you can be prepared in advance and learn eBay's roll-out time frames.
Bottom-line is all listings will be required to be associated with eBay's Product Catalog sometime by the end of 2019. eBay will be rolling out this requirement in phases of product-lines with separate deadline dates for each phase.
Phase 1 of listing product lines required to associate with their Product Catalog by the end of April, followed by new announcements of Phase 2 Product lines with required dates and so on until the end of 2019.
In Mid-March you can go to Seller Hub to find flagged listing recommendations to update to comply with Phase 1 requirements.
New Product-based Filtered Group Search
Title Keywords, best matched to a Buyers Search terms still remains in displaying single individual listing search results, however. now shoppers can narrow down (filter) results by selecting Group Similar Listings.
.Group filtered search results are reduced to listings associated with eBay's Catalog Products, yet rather than viewing the listing, shoppers view eBay's TOP PICK Buy BOX, featuring the listing as a TOP PICK. In the Buy Box, buyers can select to BUY IT NOW, add to cart, place a bid or watch the product listing or in small print, select See Details to go directly to an individual listing.
...And, of course, under the Top Pick Buy Box. buyers can also view competitor listings with a link to take them to either another Buy Box or a limited list of individual listings..
At this time. eBay is testing how effective the "Group Similar Listings" filtered search button will become by slightly changing the format, so nothing is written in stone on how eBay will present listings in the future.
Best Practice is to put on your Buyer Hat and filter your search with the "Group Similar Listing" to experience yourself from a buyers perspective.
Listing Title Keywords and Keyword Relevancy remains the most important elements to rank high in 'Best Match" and "Buy Box" search results. Although Competitive Pricing is an important factor, it isn't an end all factor. eBay's search placement algorithms, also ranks listings offering the best shipping terms, return policies and item specifics. Emphasis on adding as much as you can in Item Specifics increases a listing search results and acts like a mini-ad page in a shopper's Mobile Device.
Changes to Return Options.
You can bet the most liberal return options will receive the highest in search results, however, for DropShip Sellers, your options will greatly depend on your suppliers return policies.
In May, eBay will reduce Return options to:
On June lst, eBay will add PARTIAL REFUNDS option to offer customers return requests. It's important to note that PARTIAL REFUNDS does not provide a Final Value Fee credit, so take your costs on individual product listings, before offering a partial refund.
Also in June, eBay will remove the "additional return policies details" field in your Account Business Policies, so now would be a good time to review your return policies.
In addition, in June, ebay will add buyer-paid return policies for international sales in their Global Shipping Program, so while your reviewing your Return Policies, I highly recommend to add "International Buyer Pays for Returns" in your Return Policies.
Intermediate Payment Structure
Although not addressed within the 2018 Spring Seller Update, but previously announced, eBay is changing the process of being paid for sales transactions. eBay will continue to offer PayPal to buyers, however payments will go directly to eBay and be disbursed to Sellers in their bank accounts. after final value fees are deducted.
As of today, eBay has not disclosed how long they will hold and disburse sales funds before being paid, either way, this will greatly affect DropShippers to have immediate access to sales transactions in their PayPal Accounts.
Don't panic, this is a very slow roll-out process extending to 2021.
Take action on the most important changes now, to be prepared before they are required soon.
